Current mood: shocked

Bloody Fucking Hell
I finally heard back from my parents.

You know...I really thought I was ready for anything. I really honestly did.

But not this. This is just too...just too much.

"Dean,

When we sent you to that school, it was because we thought it was the best thing for you. We had thought that your professors would be teaching you magic and helping you make the most of your talents. But after reading your letter, it is obvious that the only thing you've learned from them is sick, disgusting, unnatural behaviour. We did not bring you up for that kind of life. We do not want that filth for our son.

We have sent a letter to your head of house. Start packing. You're coming home.

-- Mum and Dad"

...

Fucking hell.

Oh, my God.

I don't really know you, but I'm so sorry.

Oh, Dean.

Oh my... I don't know what to say to that.

They can't do this, can they?

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Re:

I don't know, I mean...can they? I'm 16...doesn't that mean they can't take me out of school if I don't want to go....? <:(

No, they can't, and they won't! Even if we all have to stand around you with wands at the ready, you're not going anywhere!

For one thing who will draw all those wonderful pictures? You still owe me a study of Malfoy as a ferret!

It's going to be fine. Everything will be fine. I mean that.

Your mother sent me an owl today, Mr Thomas. I'd like to discuss the matter with you. If you could, do drop by my office anytime after 12:02. Do bear in mind that parental rights do not equate to right of mindless prejudice.

Professor McGonagall.

seamus_f @ 2003-04-05 11:47 pm UTC

We'll fight this Dean! See if we don't! The bloody HELL I'm going to let them do this to you! They can't--they just, they just CAN'T!

oh damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it

just_harry @ 2003-04-06 12:59 am UTC

We can all go up to Dumbledore's office if you want tomorrow instead of flying because I'm absolutely sure that Dumbledore won't let Dean's parents make him leave if Dean doesn't want to go. He'll do something to stop it if we just explain it to him! I'll go talk to him myself if you and Dean don't want to. I know he'll help.

deanthomas @ 2003-04-06 06:44 am UTC

Thanks, Harry <:) And...well, it seems like I don't have to leave Hogwarts, which is good...but what else can Dumbledore DO? It's not like he can force my parents not to be horrible to me. If he could, you wouldn't have had to keep dealing with those Dursley people every summer...

Thanks, Harry. I think the best thing you can do for Dean right now is get me out of his hair! So let's go flying, after all.

Re:

No, really, you're NOT getting in my hair at all...not in a bad way, at least.

I'm going through a lot of trouble for us, mate. Least you can do is let me cling to you a little for the next few days. :)

(parent)
seamus_f @ 2003-04-06 08:27 pm UTC

That isn't what I meant, idiot. You needed some rest.

Cling! Cling! Please cling!

I've certainly clung to you often enough these past few years.

Well, if you insist...

Though you might need a prybar to get me off again :)

deanthomas @ 2003-04-06 06:40 am UTC

Um...well...well, Professor McGonnagal says that I don't have to go if I don't want to, but...

Definately going to need a place to stay over Easter.

...you're sure your parents are ok with this? <:(

seamus_f @ 2003-04-06 10:36 am UTC

I got a note back from them at lunch and of course they don't mind. In fact, you have an open invitation to stay with us whenever you like, whether I'm there or not. It is apparently all that Mum can do to keep Da from taking the first flight to London and giving your father a piece of his mind. (So you see, I come by it honestly.)

Don't suppose they want to adopt a slightly used son?

Don't give them ideas. They've been threatening to throw me back for ages.

Oh, fuck off, Boot.

Yes, thank you, Boot, for your support at this time. It is much appreciated.

Oh Dean! :( I'm so sorry. Is there anything we can do? Maybe my parents can talk to them? I wish I knew how to help!

deanthomas @ 2003-04-06 06:42 am UTC

I dunno, I don't think I'd want to subject your parents to my parents. They seem to think the whole wizarding world is a cesspool right now.

percyneedsalife @ 2003-04-06 02:34 pm UTC

Dean, mate, just wanted to say that if you ever need anyone to talk to, just come up to the shop, all right? Mum and Dad were all right about me being gay, but I know a couple of people whose parents weren't. So, yeah. Feel free.

Oh, Dean, I'm certain there must be some way they could be convinced that Hogwarts is the best place for you to be. I'd so hate to see you go, but I'd hate even more for your parents to have a negative opinion on Hogwarts and the wizarding world as a whole. Do please let me know if there's anything I can do!

Love,
Hermione

knight_to_h3 @ 2003-04-06 06:53 pm UTC

Woah, your parents sound like Slyther- uh, you can stay at the Burrow anytime, if you want!

hannahabbott @ 2003-04-07 12:58 am UTC

Oh Dean, this is tragic.

It's so hard when your parents think they are doing the right thing by you, when really it's the worst thing they could do.

It makes me realise that I'm lucky to have a liberated open-minded mother such as mine. Even if she is a trifle tiring sometimes.

I don't think they can take you out of school by force if you really don't want to go, if my memory serves me correctly, it's the age of 16. My cousin went through much the same thing with his parents, and he ended up staying in school.

I hope things turn out okay in the end.

Kindest regards,
Hannah.
