Neville Posts

And says that he and Gran have had a bit of a row.

He also goes on to note how it never happens.

It seems Gran has a bit of a thing against where he's working. Rather strange, if you ask me.

Could be because she's afraid of him "turning into" a Squib, considering his family thought he was one for quite a while.

Or maybe she's just worried about him associating with Muggles because that could make him a target for Death Eaters. *shrug*

Well, plus they thought he would be a sqib, so if he had kids with a Muggleborn/Muggle there would be higher chances of non-magic children. And I'm thinking his grandmother's got that pride some (coughcough) wizarding families have, so she'll want desendents she can be proud of, like Frank. Er, is she Franks mom? I forget.

Yes, she is Frank's mother.

I suspected Neville might find some resistance from his grandmother on the subject of Sara. His family is pureblood, and though his grandmother would never approve of what the Deatheaters do, she probably takes a certain amount of pride in her bloodline. She might not be very happy to see Neville break the pattern, so to speak, that the Longbottoms have managed to keep up.

She also might afraid of the prejudice Neville's children would face if they were half-blood.

This is exactly like in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. In that movie, the parents think of themselves as politically progressive, they raised their daughter to be accepting of black people, but they still freak out when she brings home her new fiancee, who happens to be black. (excellent movie, btw. see it, if you haven't.)

Gran is *theoretically* accepting of muggles, but she doesn't really want one dating her grandson. Maybe she just has to confront the idea, and she'll come around.

Mrs Longbottom has always had very high expectations for her grandson. We learned in Book 5 that Neville had been using his father's wand and was expected to follow in his father's footsteps and become an Auror. Frank also married a nice girl who could use magic.

Neville isn't his father and will never be his father. He likes his plants and will reach out to anyone who needs a hand.

It sounds like his grandmother is having a hard time letting Frank go and seeing that Neville is his own person.

Or seeing as she mentioned Sara, it's the typical concern about teenage boy and teenage girl frolicking in the gardens :P

Hey, this is unrelated, but does anyone remember what Dogear Wryde is an anagram for? Or at least have the link where this was discussed?

It could just be Gran worried for Neville as well. Voldemort is, of course, still a threat... and with all these DE attacks it just isn't safe to be dating a Muggle. She might be worried for the prejudice Neville too would face, not just any possible children. She's his grandmother, she wants to protect him, and at this point in time it's dangerous to associate too much with Muggles... Neville's parents were killed by Voldemort.... it's more than reasonable that Gran is nervous
