It's nice to see Narcissa up and about again, she seems well on the way to recovery.

I wonder what vain Draco's decorating tastes run in; I'm seeing dark, heavy woods and cool colors. Something that admits power. I'm sure someone will keep us up to date; maybe Draco will post and complain.

It was Narcissa to visit Harry; he needs to know that people care and worry about him. Of course, jealously put in an appearance as Draco wants to spend more time with his mother and not share her. They spend so little together just as Mother and Son, it's always family business that brings them together. Very sad.

Harry seems............okay; I'm a little worried about the fact that he's taken to sleeping in the middle of the day. He was out until very early this morning, so I'll simply hope for the best and say that he was recovering. I do hope his Aunt gives him those Galleons, but I can see her keeping them or something equally horrid.

I hope Narcissa's visit won't prevent Draco from going to see Harry on his birthday. Harry needs those visits.

Oh, and because I can't say it any other way: HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY!

I thought it was very sweet of her to remember Harry's birthday, but I was saddened that Draco was hurt by it.

Anyone know anything about the gemstones Narcissa gave him? That sounds like a mystery just begging for us to solve.

Heh-Finally something I have to contribute! Links are where I double checked the info, if it's not in the link, it's folklore I've picked up from working at a Pagan supply store for faaaaar too long. It would be interesting to know if Harry knew the associations behind the stones, and also which ones he pocketed!

Opal, Andean-I hadn't heard of this one, but I looked it up, and it's used for communication.

Hematite-Grounding and centering, but I've also heard of it used for protection from evil.

Chrysocolla-Another communicative stone, but it also has associations with removing the pain of the past and encouraging unconditional love.

Lapis LazuliLapis Lazuli-anti-deppressant, very protective.

Tiger's Eye-Luck and fortune, but it is also associated with truth-telling and divination. Also protective. Also, wearing Tigereye while sleeping is said to bring good dreams.

la_trix @ July 31 2003, 10:35:28 UTC More about Narcissa's gemstones

I looked them up also, and here's what I can add (I'm paraphrasing the following info from this site):

Hematite. It's associated with Mars; warriors rubbed their bodies with the stone before battle, believing it protected them and made them "invincible."

Hematite is said to check hemorrhages, relieve high blood pressure and depression, as well as ease pain. Some claim it draws out inflammation and is especially good for rubbing on sore muscles.

Andean Opal. Opals come in a variety of colors, but those from Peru (I'm assuming that is what is meant by "Andean") lack "fire," and are blue or pink.

Mystical Properties: Most often this stone is associated with the gift of prophecy. The Chinese believe the wearer must also be "pure of heart" to receive the gift of the stone. The Romans also believed opal could instill the gift of prophecy.

Opals are said to impart bad luck on those who stray in love or attempt to use the power of the stone for selfish/evil purposes.

Natural Healers use it to promote visions, enhance prophetic dreams and intuition. They also believe it helps kidneys and blood diseases.

I especially like this idea (I wonder if Narcissa knows about this): Opal is said to keep blonde hair from fading with age.

It is also associated with improving eyesight and reducing stress levels.

Chrysocolla. Thought to improve psychic ability, aid in prophetic dreaming, attaining a trance and communicating with the spirit world. Sometimes mentioned as useful in love spells. Said to heal a broken heart and renew emotional strength.

Thought to help release those who are overly concerned with material goods/wealth.

Thought to give wisdom in speech, as in improving knowing when to speak—and when to keep silent.

Said to relieve allergies and improve endurance and physical strength.

Healing Properties: Said to help calm the spirit and expel feelings of guilt. Used to relieve allergies. Said to help with blood sugar and pancreas problems (I bet Narcissa has been using this one recently), muscle cramps, and spasms.

Lapis Lazuli. The deep blue color was often associated with royalty and deities. Christians, Egyptians and ancient Sumerians all associated this stone with motherhood.

Thought to give wisdom and fairness to its wearer and increase spiritual love.

Healing Properties: Most commonly thought to bring peace and soothe depression.

Tiger Eye. Universally thought to bring good fortune and to protect from the "Evil Eye." Considered very lucky for gamblers.

Natural Healers use Tiger Eye to increase practicality and common-sense. Tiger Eye is also thought to increase psychic power as it resembles an eye (Third Eye). Hmm. With this and the chrysocolla, Narcissa seems to be encouraging Harry's visions ...

Natural Healers use Tiger Eye to help a person's confidence. It it thought to be a balancing, grounding gemstone.

Healing Properties: Said to help heal eye problems. Thought to open the heart to goodness and
charitable deeds.

Even if Narcissa's stones can't really help Harry's depression, hopefully the thought that she found it important to visit him on his birthday will. Don't know what it can do for his eyesight, though! ;)
