Goodbye English Rose...
Mood: pensive

My goodness, I'd forgotten that it was this year when Diana died...how neat of them is it to put that detail in? I'm scared to think of how old I was when that happened. Time passeth on...

Great detail, guys.

I was just about to post on this. They are so cool.

Also, someone probably reads The Onion.

Either that, or there has to be a master list of all the events that have happened around the world each year. Otherwise, well, the mind boggles.

She had burning man icons for a few days :)

Ah burning man, funny I have friends there right now.

Really? The timing is interesting then.

Is Burning Man a big thing? Not being an American, I'm not familiar with it.

It's hard to imagine Narcissa acting like a flobberworm. *wide eyes*

It's huge in with the drug culture. I actually just found out all about it at the beginning of this summer. A friend showed me a giant book of photography from it. It's absolutely gorgeous and overwhelming and awe-inspiring. All of the people are so radically different and they there are these hugs art constructs set up everywhere, and costumes, and nudity, and drugs, and sex. It's pretty much unimaginable.

Woah. That's all I gotta say.

Its a very Hippy event, its in the middle of the desert and people trek from all over to go, and they have to bring all of their water and food and everything, and you just go for a week and sweat like mad and do a ton of drugs and kind of escape from reality. I have some friends who have been and its just hot as hell, and very ritualistic. It actually sounds pretty cool.

You forgot the link, please edit and add it in. It makes it easier to reference when going through NrAged archives.

Certainly, I've done so now. Apologies, but not all of us are so good with the HTML.

theantimodel @ August 30 2003, 21:52:12 UTC

Hey if you need help with html there are some pretty helpful answers in the FAQs. Also I'd suggest using the preview option so that you have a chance to check your links before you post. It should help you avoid these problems in the future.

theantimodel @ August 30 2003, 21:42:15 UTC

hey do you think you could add a link to this? It would certainly make this easier to follow.

Oh DUH. I saw Narcissa's post before any of the replies came and went, "Wha?"

When I read Narcissa's post, my first thought was "a princess died?? huh??" and my mother asked me what on earth I was talking about. Of course then I realised (omg NA impresses me more every day...) and said "Nevermind."

Just seconds later on the tv a show came on. "Diana: the day she died" and now my mother thinks I'm psychic :D

Okay, this has *got* to be the crowning moment for Angsty August. Just go and make us dredge up our own memories of August 30, as if we weren't sad enough. Great incorporation of the event, though. :::sniffle:::

Omg. I was ten years old when it happens. Ten! And I still remember it like woah.

Really to be hoped that any HP writing set in 1997 would acknowledge such an event and the way in which London and indeed the whole of Britain was transformed overnight. That the entire country was in mourning is hard to miss even for most insular of wizardkind plus of course we know that at higher levels of government there is co-operation between the communities.

In this case linking with muggle news the players timing was slightly off. One of the problems with LJ comments being in PST so there is an 8 hour slippage from GMT or in this case British Summertime. I was lucky to find this site as my character was the one to 'break the news' in another forum.

Timestamping on the comments is not something that should be paid attention to on NA, something that was pointed out to us several months ago during the NA/NrAged chat.

kat99999 @ August 31 2003, 02:27:16 UTC

Wah, that brings back memories. *sniffles* Most depressing time EVER, reading it on NA again made me a bit w00by. And like lazy_daze, I was only eleven years old. That was ages ago, and it doesn't seem like it. Weeeird.

Woah. I remember that and I was, like, seven, man. I went and said to my dad, "AAaahekdjosejjsg! Princess Diana diiiied!" Of course, he already knew. And of course, I didn't even know who Princess Diana even was.

Maybe the NA players have a "This Day in History" sort of thing bookmarked somewhere.

I was seven, too-Major Youth Couch. And no, neither did I, but everyone was so sad.

I had to drive back to Manchester from Hertfordshire that day. The traffic was appalling & every single radio station had nothing but tragic commentary.

I'd forgotten it was the anniversary today.

...Oh...my...god...

I was 15 and just entering my sophomore year when I heard about Diana's death. I was stunned. Just...stunned... I hardly knew her, yet...yet... *wibbles* It was horrible!!! *bawls all over again*
