I actually sent this thread to my friend whose never even read Nocturne Alley and the first thing she said was.
"These two are going out right?"
SO HAH.

(parent)

jukajong @ September 9 2003, 02:29:18 UTC

So blatant, with their talks of owls and noses! Hahahaha. Their love, it is so obvious.

(parent)

hezzabeth @ September 9 2003, 02:30:37 UTC

She said it looked like they were flirting , you know in highschool when you tease the person your crazy about?
I love Harry's insistance that he can take Draco.

(parent)

jukajong @ September 9 2003, 02:36:27 UTC

Oh, totally. Although Draco seems really conflicted about it.

It seems like Draco's still pretty butt-hurt about whatever happened recently between them. When Harry was like, 'I'm not busy or anything' Draco seemed really put-off. Like it was too much too soon. *sigh* So much angst.

(parent)

hezzabeth @ September 9 2003, 02:38:27 UTC

Wait a second something happened between those two recently? was this about Draco chucking a hissy fit when Harry was'nt in his carrige on the train?
Because I have to say P_S your being pretty imature about this.

I'm pretty much a dumb ass which means I need some one else to point out the charectors feelings before I actually see it.

(parent)

jukajong @ September 9 2003, 02:49:01 UTC

Well, it seemed like Harry had been ignoring Draco for awhile now. Also, from their tones, this thread seems kinda like a cautious 'Hey, how are you?' from Harry. Like he was trying to tell Draco that they were still friends.

Same here, most of the time. I'm pretty lame deciphering most of this cryptic stuff.

(parent)

jukajong @ September 9 2003, 02:54:31 UTC

OMG. Seemed like it worked. Now they're having make-up sex. OMG OMG so obvious.

Do you suppose "breaking your nose" doubles as some kind of euphemism?

(parent)

hobaggins @ September 9 2003, 03:13:39 UTC

I'll break your nose b_d

I don't know. It's fun any sort of way you look at it. It's been so long since a Harry and Draco live thread, that I almost forgot how fun it was. ALMOST.

(parent)

black_dog @ September 9 2003, 03:19:23 UTC

I'll break your nose b_d

But my dear H, this is so sudden!

I know it's been a while since they had a live thread, but hasn't it just been a matter of time? I'm not one of those who thinks they've been massively put out with each other -- Harry has been understandably busy, and Draco has been in a situation where JH couldn't really run to him for companionship. PS has been signalling that he'd like more contact with Harry, and now Harry's free so here they go . . .

Always the eternal optimist, me.

(parent)

hobaggins @ September 9 2003, 03:23:54 UTC

*leers* I'm game... unless you don't think your owl can take it

Yesh, I know. I was just speaking for being online and watching, there really hasn't been opportunity, the closest thing though we've had were the Q&As which shouldn't count (although they do, a lot)

I don't really think they've been all that on the outs either. Draco has to be different when he's at home, and Harry went through loads this past summer. It affects things.

but more importantly....

black_dog @ September 9 2003, 03:04:08 UTC

How evil is NA? I have no idea what the end of PS' and JH's conversation meant. (At least, I'm assuming it's the end.) Draco: "Fine, I'm going." Harry: "Me too." Are they tired of bantering with one another and "going" away? Or are they "going" off together to their secret room, where they are going to skip the nose-breaking and get right down to things?

I know what I want it to mean. I'm just not sure.

(parent)

hezzabeth @ September 9 2003, 03:07:15 UTC

I know for a fact I'm completally confused at first their conversation seemed flirty and now its down right nasty.

(parent)

black_dog @ September 9 2003, 03:10:14 UTC

I can read it either way. Either they're tired and the bantering suddenly stopped being fun, or they both sort of realized that the bantering made them want to get together and do something rather than bicker. I didn't think it got nasty -- it seemed just like hard teasing. I don't know, though.

(parent)

hezzabeth @ September 9 2003, 03:13:15 UTC

I guess I was going by Draco's icons which were slowley changing from " I have a cutting witt" to " I sneer because I can".
I'm just not sure if they've run off to actually have " the sex" it seems like its way to obvious for NA.
Is it wrong to wish they really would break each others noses? the scene sounds so comical.

(parent)

hobaggins @ September 9 2003, 03:15:42 UTC

He did use his "teh sex" icon. His I am brutally attractive icon? C'mon. Can you get more teh sex than that

(parent)

And he uses it right after the ONE time in that conversation where Harry changes from his default to another icon. And it's one of Harry's originals too, hmm? The kind that Draco likes because they are very "Potter". It's the little things which are so heartwarming!

(parent)

Anonymous @ September 10 2003, 10:14:31 UTC

But he uses this "brutally attractive" icon so often and almost with everyone in nearly every occasions, so I'm uncertain that he means anything specific. Only when using his "shapely girlfriend" icon makes me think he means something.

(parent)

darklites @ September 9 2003, 03:26:42 UTC

Either they're tired and the bantering suddenly stopped being fun,

I know what you mean, I think the "I'm tired"/"Me too" could be read in the way that they are admitting that the inane bantering was becoming a bit --strained?, particularly when there's so much that hasn't been sorted out between them yet. Maybe they were tentatively trying to get back into old habits and finding it a bit difficult to do so?

On a different note:
What I loved about this post was Draco's insecurity and his Issues with what was happening with Harry. I somehow can see him typing "And finally we have Potter", and then scrolling up and preparing to write a lot of other complaints to make it look more nonchalant. He begins by declaring he has a list of complaints for us, gets tired of it after only *one*, and then throws one in about Crabbe almost to distract from this. Interesting.

Yeah, the bantering seemed more of an effort, less purely fun, than it usually does -- it reminded me a bit of Cannes night, where it sometimes seemed like they were keeping it going because they needed the reassurance of the contact, didn't want to let it go.

OK, let me overread in classic NA style: Harry seems to know Draco is hurting, because a lot of his comments tend to appease PS -- complimenting his carving skills, reassuring him that his owl could take Crabbe, pretending that Hedwig would cower in fear. He only draws the line when PS talks about kicking him, and even then he turns it into a fun sort of fistfight challenge (and we know how much they like physical contact!)

Draco seems pouty and depressed, with all his very concrete mock-aggression toward Harry and everyone else. But I think his longing and affection for Harry comes through in his "shut up, I don't like you any longer." How hard is it for PS to put in writing, even in this backwards way, that he likes Harry? And the fact that he'll still be thinking about Harry when he's 60, even just to run him down in the gutter -- it's all classic PS kick-you-in-the-ankles lurve, don't you think?

All of which makes me hope that Harry's "we could just skip it" means, let's cut the silliness, let's talk. I don't read Draco's "Well" as indignant or hurt, more like a mock-scandalized romantic heroine responding to a proposition. But his "I'm going now" jars me, because like I said above, it could mean either of two completely different things -- that Draco is backing away from the emotional contact of the conversation, cutting it off, or that he's inviting Harry to their hidden room. I just don't know, and with prickly!odd!Draco, you can never quite be sure.

My .02, joining the pile.

*snickers* Nice...

Still...I honestly feel that the boys are trying to get back into their old habit, and they're finally realizing that being rivals just isn't going to cut it anymore. Their hearts are no longer against each other, and they know each other too well to actually NOT like each other in SOME way. If no true love develops by the end of the year, then they can at least become decent friends when they leave Hogwarts...at least, IMHO.

(parent)

noirenails @ September 9 2003, 07:32:58 UTC

they know each other too well to actually NOT like each other in SOME way

So true. For example, Draco's twitching when he's asleep. If they both know about the twitching (and drooling), it is impossible for them to go back being rivals. They're just too close now. Pretty much like in Draco Trilogy by Cassie Claire and in Underwater Light by Maya.

I really love those guys and their players. Love love love.

So glad to see these two interacting again! <3

I read the "I'm tired." "Me too." bits as a conversation outside the flirting/bantering because they separated those comments from the main.

What I can't decide is whether it was about the mundane (being physically tired due to the time the convo was occuring), or the poingnant (being emotionally tired from all the stresses they've been under recently).

(parent)

onthehillside @ September 9 2003, 20:46:55 UTC

Gah. I just deleted a very long, very introspective mini-essay on why I thought that the two were tired for more emotional reasons rather than physical.

This is very upsetting to me, considering it was the first time that I was going to write such a long post, and that I put a great deal of thought into it. Oh, well.

To sum it up, I thought that...

1. ps couldn't have possibly been that tired, considering that he was online a good 30 minutes after he posted to reply to j_h's comments

2. it was almost as if ps was trying to stop the bantering by telling j_h was was "tired". he rarely, if ever, ends a live thread without being declared "the winner"

3. he didn't seem like he was in the mood for a display of his cunning wit or showing off his mad confundus skillz. this is a first, I believe.

4. the two did in fact get offline to meet, according our lovely star giver. this, again, does not match with either ps or j_h's claims to being "tired" in a physical manner

To sum it up, i thought that this thread showed the beginnings of a change in ps, at least in his behavior toward j_h. while he was certainly not forthright with his emotions in a manner of most are used to, it is certainly a difference from his last live thread, where he refused to "stop pretending" to Ron.

(parent)

hobaggins @ September 9 2003, 21:04:30 UTC

It's also the first time that PS has admitted that he likes Harry, I believe.......

I just deleted a very long, very introspective mini-essay

Oi. That sucks. :p

Emotionally tired was my instinct when reading it too because of the way Draco said it: separated, brief, and so pointed (unusual for Draco). There was something subdued about it and about Harry's "Me too." They also were the only parts of the entire exchange that reflected real feelings, the rest was just play. And when Harry said We're both tired. I'll just break your nose and get it over with. And then we can go to sleep., it just screamed 'Let's wrap this up so we can go curl up together and forget everything else for a while.'

And can't you just picture them? :D

Yes, yes I can picture them. I don't often wish in my life that had any sort of artistic talent, but I have this urge every once in a while after reading something ps/j_h centric (or H/D in general) to grab a pen and sketch the images that float around in my head.
