I interpreted Snape's comment to Ginny in this post [How kind of you to volunteer your time to help your busy friend, Miss Weasley] to mean that Ginny was *supposed* to help Hermione.

me too! perhaps he was only referring to how ginny spoke up to say the holiday assignment wasn't fair, but that is not really what it looks like, phrased that way. i wonder if he was testing them to see if hermione would allow anyone else to help?
