(no title)
Ernie presents commentary on the match, quite fairly. (And squee, Ernie and Hermione!)

Potter was almost at it and Malfoy stole it out from under him in a really underhanded way
I knew it was something like that! how very Draco.

also, it's quite understandable that Ron was protective of Ginny, I guess we couldn't expect anything else after George's death.

so was Harry still hexed when Draco caught the Snitch the last time?

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 19:36:11 UTC

It sounds like, according to Ernie (whom I trust) that Harry was just on the other side of the pitch at the time. He tried to get over there but couldn't do it in time, which makes it seem like he was unhexed by then.

(parent)

dry_your_eyes @ May 2 2004, 19:38:17 UTC

I'd really like to read Harry's account of things, but I doubt we'll get the chance :/

(parent)

conversant @ May 2 2004, 21:25:02 UTC

Of course, ps's report that it practically flew into his hand that final time makes me wonder if he used a second summoning spell on it. After all, it worked so well the first time, save that Hooch noticed.

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 21:52:33 UTC

Though according to Ernie he was dive-bombing for it, which makes it seem like he wasn't using a spell.

Both and?

ex_lev195 @ May 2 2004, 19:35:55 UTC

I wonder if Draco was talking to Pansy about Whatever Happened Friday.

(parent)

dry_your_eyes @ May 2 2004, 19:41:28 UTC

evidently, Friday events are more important for him than Quidditch victory. Now I'm itching to find out what's happened!

(parent)

ex_lev195 @ May 2 2004, 19:52:21 UTC

I have a feeling that Whatever Happened Friday is going to go in the rather large stack of NA Unsolved Mysteries. (Head Boy? Malfoy family portraits? Screened comment?)

Damn you, NA. Damn you.

(parent)

lazy_daze @ May 2 2004, 19:57:54 UTC

Well, clearly all that happened was the death of a house elf :P

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 20:00:12 UTC

Though I'm still intrigued as to why--"these things happen" is kind of vague. Did the house elf die because it got in the way of something else? Which elf was it--if it were Dacey that's an actual character getting offed. One that was close to other characters as well.

(parent)

takeonelook @ May 2 2004, 22:50:00 UTC

First, Narcissa seemed to be preparing for loss, which would imply that the house elf's death was not accidental, but instead part of the evening's itinerary. With the way Narcissa's been carrying on I'm inclined to think that it was Dacey that died. I'm not a hundred percent sure about this, but wasn't Dacey Narcissa's personal house elf? It makes sense considering Narcissa's reaction: her mourning icon, her comments about making a sacrifice etc... Narcissa would sometimes communicate with Remus through Dacey, and didn't she even stay at Dogear for a while? In a way it's almost symbolic of the fact that that connection (the Remus/Narcissa, and more generally any alliance between dark/light) has been severed; it's dead. It really seems to me like the characters are retreating further to their own sides and creating a bigger and clearer divide. Relationships between characters with different ideologies are ending (i.e R/N, D/H).

I'm really curious as to whether or not Draco played a role in the house elf's death. Obviously whatever transpired that night was something monumental for Draco, otherwise his parents wouldn't be so doting. That, and the fact that M.B calls it a "fancy meeting", makes me think that it had to do with Death Eaters; maybe not an initiation per say, but something along those lines. The purposeful death of a house elf would definately fit in that case. What disturbs me is that Draco seems so unaffected; even if he wasn't the one who killed the house elf. I mean, he appeared really disturbed when he was attempting to talk to Harry. So did he come to terms with whatever he had to do, or what? The only signs that Draco himself might be having a hard time are Millicent's worry the day of the 'whatever', and Pansy's hand holding, if we assume that they weren't only talking about his broken nose.

Another thing, I really want to know what Harry is thinking. Everything that's happened in regards to Draco had to have been hard on him. And now Hermione and Ron have a bf/gf, and Seamus and Dean seem to be spending a lot of time together again; I just get this image of Harry all lonely and my heart clenches.

(parent)

takeonelook @ May 2 2004, 22:53:26 UTC

And Dacey it is!

(parent)

dry_your_eyes @ May 2 2004, 20:03:48 UTC

I wish it were so simple, but it's NA :>

(parent)

lazy_daze @ May 2 2004, 19:51:42 UTC

Yes, that's definitely what went through my mind - particularly considering Draco ansd Pansy seemed so defensive about it, I reckon they were worried Ernie'd overheard.

(parent)

ex_lev195 @ May 2 2004, 19:53:34 UTC

Ooh yes, good point.

I also get the feeling that the holding hands part was just part of their cover and whatnot. I doubt that Draco and Pansy are actually interested in each other at all, but they are good friends. (*has Pansy/Millicent theories*)

(parent)

lazy_daze @ May 2 2004, 19:57:16 UTC

Hee, me too. And matching jh/ps theories :P

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 19:57:44 UTC

Yeah, but they wouldn't need to hold hands for cover, particularly if they didn't know they were being watched.

I'd like to think the handholding was spontaneous--a real gesture of affection of some kind between them as friends. Especially since we know Draco went through something this weekend, whatever it was. It's interesting it was the two of them together, though. Draco and MB's relationship is pretty up front, but Pansy/MB and Pansy/Draco interactions are more mysterious.

(parent)

ex_lev195 @ May 2 2004, 20:06:08 UTC

Gesture of support? Something along those lines, I'm assuming.

...as Ernie points out the only thing Draco was doing was whining about his nose. *shakes head* Well, I'm sure Ernie wasn't there the whole time.

(parent)

onewallaway @ May 2 2004, 20:40:58 UTC

Pansy seems to be the sort of person who would take someone's hand as a gesture of support or affection. If Draco was telling her about Friday night, he may have needed that sort of connection.

I'd say that Pansy and MB's relationship is rather up front (the cake frosting conversation, for example). Draco and Pansy don't seem to show their relationship off much, besides Draco's "I have a shapely girlfriend" icon, which he mostly uses when he needs to threaten someone who he feels is attracted to him.

It is interesting that Draco has chosen Pansy to discuss this with. He probably couldn't talk about it with Harry, because of their fight, though if it had anything to do with Voldemort he may try again. He appears to be closer to MB through the journals, but maybe he felt she would not understand as well. Are either Pansy's or MB's parents confirmed DEs?

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 21:16:27 UTC

Oh yes, you're right--and the way they keep each others' feet warm etc. But they're not openly girlfriends, so we're not really privvy to it.

Lucius seems to like Millicent, Pansy's father is away a lot. So neither seem confirmed as DEs the way Nott's and Goyle's are, but Pansy and MB seem to have been friends with Draco from an early age.

Pansy/Draco interraction has sometimes produced surprising results, like when they decided to go out in the first place (which MB didn't seem to approve of at all). I wonder what the significance of Lucius stepping in now is.

(parent)

conversant @ May 2 2004, 21:03:30 UTC

Purestblood has stepped in to step on Pansy's pretensions. According to him, she is not suitable and will never be Draco's girlfriend. I wonder how that will go down?

I'm also very pleased about Pansy and M.B.'s lovely little bit of flirtation about cake! How scrumptious to imagine M.B. with frosting on her nose! :)

vassilissa @ May 3 2004, 01:55:48 UTC

I'd like to think the handholding was spontaneous--a real gesture of affection of some kind between them as friends.

*nod* It's a very Pansy gesture, too. Your boyfriend is telling you something important to him about a difficult time he's had, so you take his hand. Oddly formal, but with kindness behind it.

(parent)

chinae @ May 2 2004, 19:44:24 UTC

I love Ernie. I particularly love his comment how Potter was distracted by Malfoy's hair.

And the fact that Malfoy was holding Pansy's hand, after all didn't he love Quidditch, which I took to mean "didn't he love Potter?"

oooo...smackdown! I wonder what made him say that now..

(parent)

I'm leaning towards the Perks/Malfoy engagement/betrothal theory...

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 21:06:23 UTC

Exactly. It also makes me wonder if he's part of the reason Draco and Pansy didn't want it bandied about they were holding hands. I guess that's why it seems so sweet they were doing it-I mean, here they were making a point of telling everybody they were going out when it seemed like a cover for both of them, yet the seem a little put out at someone witnessing a private moment that seems to confirm their story.

Draco's always said Pansy was his girlfriend, ever since they decided on that last year. His icon is non-specific--any shapely girl would do. I wonder what Pansy's reaction will be. She and Draco seemed to please Narcissa when the three of them went out right after Pansy and Draco decided to be bf/gf again. Pansy's referred to Draco as her boyfriend plenty of times and even has it as an icon.

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 22:19:10 UTC

And Draco corrected him that Pansy is his girlfriend!

And it appears there was a "fancy meeting" being held there, if we take MB's comment to be about Friday night.

(parent)

conversant @ May 2 2004, 21:21:53 UTC

She doesn't seem very impressed by the invitation. I love it when she replies to the senior Malfoys with such lightly veiled contempt. She toyed with Narcissa in much the same vein earlier, and it was just fabulous.

(parent)

conversant @ May 2 2004, 21:30:47 UTC

And now purestblood has responded with veiled threats against her family. Yikes. He seems a bit on edge at the moment, doesn't he? M.B. and Pansy seem to be pushing him to show his teeth.

Also of interest is that in everyone's accounts, it appears Harry played a clean game, despite the fouls all around.

(parent)

laurac0re @ May 2 2004, 20:55:11 UTC

although he was given detention along with the others...

it seems strange that he would be punished if he didn't do anything wrong.

(parent)

sistermagpie @ May 2 2004, 21:10:44 UTC

Yeah, it does. Did he do something that didn't involve magic? We don't even know if he brought his wand--though if he didn't it seems he was the only one.

(parent)

vassilissa @ May 3 2004, 02:01:09 UTC

If he leaves his wand behind *anywhere* in the current climate, he's insane.

Harry did do something. Though, not much when compared to others...

(parent)

Yes, presumably he was just part of the fray as well. He was probably protecting his teammates.

(parent)

I would very much like to know how both teams can score at the same time. I mean, there's only one Quaffle.

Me too. Maybe someone threw it really hard and it went through both.

Sinistra explains it all

(parent)

moocow1985 @ May 3 2004, 06:19:55 UTC

Man, Ernie is so awesome. I suppose a Hufflepuff is as unbiased as can be. A great deal of enthusiasm alternating for each team would cancel each other out, right?

The way he describes it is almost like being there. As well, the little details: "INTENSITY IN TEN CITIES!" Nothing like it.

Oh man, Lucius lays the smackdown. I'm lovin' it.
