(no title)
Mood: pleased
As always, I am amazed by petitemillicent. She is not homophobic and I don't think she said one defamatory thing about anyone during the course of that thread. And then she goes and states her morals quite clearly. True, she is stating them in a Slytherin-like way (and opening the subtext way for Pansy/Millicent ;)) but she is clearly stating them. I am proud of Millicent for not being like Draco, although she never has. Millicent never fails to amuse or amaze me and I think she is one of the best players in the game.
Edit: Oops... read it the wrong way. *embarrassed* Okay... um... never mind all that up there...

So her morals are that child abuse is bad? Or what? I thought it was being humourus and almost DEFENDING Draco, in some sense.

Oh, lol, I thought she was saying that she didn't like homophobia and she thought it was good Draco was being punished for it.
*shrugs*

Above all, M.B. is sarcastic. Don't take her on face value, or you'll fail.

*nod* I just reread it and got a totally different view on what she was saying.
Thanks!!

Exactly. I generally don't see how the detentions are supposed to help by isolating Draco even more. After all, even Narcissa only changed her opinion after being in contact with Sirius and Remus.
Besides, I'm kind of iffy on the situation with L.Brown, and the hufflepuff boys. They were also very homophobic, but as it's not in their nature to ...well, be Drama Queens, like M.B. pointed out Draco is, obviously their opinions weren't stated as harshy as ps's. That doesn't mean they differ.
sistermagpie @ April 26 2003, 11:17:11 UTC |
Also that everybody needs to chill out. Especially ps, of course.
M.B. knows what's up with Draco. She's made her anger at him perfectly clear for her own reasons. But I really like that she doesn't ever get swept along in whatever wave hits the school. Homophobia: nothing new. And really, M.B. is probably the most realistic about this being homophobia. People have used the word about ps but haven't really followed it to its logical conclusion. Yes, he's homophobic. He's freaking out. It's not exactly like cheating on a test.
How does this player manage to never step out of voice, always throw a totally unique perspective on things and get me interested in her character's every move with every post??

See, I don't know about Millicent here. She's clearly is calling Draco on his homophobia (Which I'm very proud of her for, calling friends on things like that is very, very difficult.) But, where she states this is child abuse? She seems to think all the detentions are in excess.
Which made me think, actually. Is Hogwarts just being a liberal school here that is just horrified at this behavior? Or is this just a smaller picture of the apparently liberal wizarding world? I think I saw this mentioned upstream somewhat and I've been wondering about it. Sadly, I know that at my high school (in the South), Draco would probably get written up for language and get a day or two's detention. Which is horrible, and wrong, and I am not condoning that at all. It just made me wonder if the wizarding world is a lot more liberal than ours.
non_inferno @ April 26 2003, 11:15:06 UTC |
The HP fandom world, at least, is a lot more liberal than ours.
(parent)notapipe @ April 26 2003, 11:16:19 UTC |
Hogwarts is being leftist, not liberal. If it were truly liberal, it wouldn't try so hard to impose it's morals on PS.
(parent)idlewind @ April 26 2003, 11:21:08 UTC |
Okay, yeah, that's true. I need to be more careful on word choices sometimes. Thanks for the response. :)
And, hey, I have to say, like the eyebrows.
notapipe @ April 26 2003, 11:36:28 UTC |
Well, you're right, in the colloquial vernacular where liberal = left. I'm just kinda pet peevey about that issue. Because I'm a geek.
(parent)servalan @ April 26 2003, 17:26:38 UTC |
I'm totally with you on that one. Much of the American left is as non-liberal as it gets. (As a die-hard Libertarian, I want my descriptor back!) Words keep changing their meanings these days. I get so confused. Maybe we should all speak dead, immutable languages (like Latin) to avoid this problem.
I don't think this post had much to do with the thread, considering that I already complained a while back (i.e. this morning) about PS's unfair treatment at the hands of a RightThink regime.
(I wonder if they want a character who plays a law firm. The lawyer approaches PS and asks if he'd like to retain their services. Ooooh, Voldie could pay for it. Instead of waiting for a big battle on Hogwarts, the Dark Lord can sue this Institution of Higher Learning for all it's worth. **cackles madly**)
